Which ER will you go to?

If you live in Tallahassee, you’ve seen the ER wars on the billboards. If you have an emergency, will you go to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital? Or Capital Regional Medical Center? They boast about low wait times, quality of care, etc.

Bottom line: It’s clear that on some level the two are competing for reputation and patients. Although they are not equivalent for all types of medical care (TMH is larger, offers more specialty care), if you just need a gash stitched up, where do you go?

This week there was a news story in the Tallahassee Democrat about hospital rankings from a company called LeapFrog (learn more here:http://www.leapfroggroup.org/ratings-reports)  and a local debate over their validity:

If you look at the story, TMH gets a C (where it’s been for a few years per this ranking service) and doesn’t put much credence in the rankings. CRMC gets an A and supports the rankings. At issue also is paying for the service and filling out the data requests from LeapFrog.

The news story provides a bit more detail about the hospitals and their rankings.

What do you think?

If it's May, I must be ...

tracking again.

A pattern in the last several years of my life has been to start each May by tracking my food/weight and sometimes activity using myfitnesspal (MFP). Why May? Well, that's when this class starts. That's when summer (as defined by FSU begins). With the fall and spring terms complete, I'm usually ready to find a new pattern for everyday life and hopeful about setting some new habits. This year is no exception. I feel like I've been gaining and losing the same 10 lbs for years. And apparently I have.
