If you live in Tallahassee, you’ve seen the ER wars on the billboards. If you have an emergency, will you go to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital? Or Capital Regional Medical Center? They boast about low wait times, quality of care, etc.
Bottom line: It’s clear that on some level the two are competing for reputation and patients. Although they are not equivalent for all types of medical care (TMH is larger, offers more specialty care), if you just need a gash stitched up, where do you go?
This week there was a news story in the Tallahassee Democrat about hospital rankings from a company called LeapFrog (learn more here:http://www.leapfroggroup.org/ratings-reports) and a local debate over their validity:

If you look at the story, TMH gets a C (where it’s been for a few years per this ranking service) and doesn’t put much credence in the rankings. CRMC gets an A and supports the rankings. At issue also is paying for the service and filling out the data requests from LeapFrog.

As I person who has been a patient or taken people to both, I will have to say I like Capital Regional better. If I have a minor injury like when I tore a muscle, I went to TMH on Thomasville Rd. They are the quickest for things of this nature. Unfortunately, in knowing certain issues like when my sister had a pulmonary embolism, we went to TMH for the specific specialty but the ER triage nurses are horrific. The doctor that eventually got my sister in the back yelled at them and then filed a formal complaint at the hospital because of their lack of care correctly. I realize that we are not the full story but our data stories probably would not help TMH at least in the ER.

DeleteWell, I am not familiar with either and hope it stays that way. Based on your post as well as Karilyn's comment, I think it is fair to say that I should program phone and address for Capital Regional and stay away from TMH. Thanks!
